Career Services offers students opportunities to get ahead of goals and meet aspirations
MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University offers several opportunities for students to get ahead of their career goals. Career Services is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are looking for ways to secure their future, in addition to Murray State alumni who are looking to hire or simply need support in reaching their career goals.
Along with job searching and networking, Career Services’ professional staff helps Racers build resumes, cover letters and thank you letters. They also help with negotiating contracts, evaluating offer packages, navigating through LinkedIn and interview coaching sessions.
“85 percent of positions are never posted – they come from relationships,” said Career Services Director Matt Purdy.
A pillar of Career Services’ offerings for students is Handshake, an online career management platform with job listings for part-time and full-time positions along with internship opportunities. The platform connects more than 6,000 employers directly with University students to fill their positions.
Most recently, Career Services partnered with JCPenney for the fourth Suit-Up sales event. JCPenney offered business attire at a highly-discounted rate for students, their family, faculty and staff. Held in a virtual format this year, the event saw more than 200 participants utilize a Suit-Up digital coupon.
Career Services is located in suite 100 of the Oakley Applied Science Building. They can be reached at 270-809-3735 or firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about available resources, please visit murraystate.edu/career.
