Prestigious national publications recognize University for educational quality, value and successful career outcomes for students

MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University has once again been highlighted as a best value for students seeking a college degree by two national publications.

The University led all public institutions across Kentucky in Washington Monthly’s “Best Bang for the Buck” South region category. Further, among ranked master’s degree granting public institutions in Kentucky, Murray State ranks the highest, has the highest graduation rate, the lowest net price for families earning below $75,000 per year, and the best ranking for the research score.

Criteria largely included those centered on social mobility, including eight-year graduation rate, racial, ethnic and gender composition of the student body, affordability, median graduate earnings and more.

Additionally, Murray State has been named to Money’s “2020 Best Colleges” list, which ranks the University as the No. 1 regional public institution in Kentucky.

The list includes more than 700 universities across the country, factoring in more than 20,000 data points from the US. Department of Education. Money, a personal finance website, praised the University for its education quality, affordability and career outcomes for graduates.

“Recognition from national publications such as these are a testament to the quality and value of a Murray State education,” said Murray State President Dr. Bob Jackson. “We are proud of these rankings and remain committed to providing both access and affordability for our students and their families.” 

Murray State continues to reinforce its “high-quality, high-impact, best value” promise that has been recognized by multiple national publications. In addition to these accolades, the University has been named one of “America’s Best Colleges” by Forbes for 12 straight years and a “Top-Tier University” by U.S. News & World Report for 29 consecutive years. Murray State has also been recognized nationally for campus safety initiatives and within the past year, the city of Murray has been named one of the nation’s top 50 safest college towns. 

Located in western Kentucky, Murray State offers 145 academic programs within six diverse colleges and schools for undergraduate and graduate students seeking to achieve their personal and professional goals. Murray State continues to offer financial assistance to Racers and their families. Based on the University’s most recent annual reports, $115 million is awarded in financial aid and scholarships. Among this year’s freshman class, 89 percent have received a scholarship or financial aid. Numerous scholarships and aid opportunities are available, such as the Murray State Promise, which provides scholarship assistance for eligible Kentucky first-time freshmen and new transfer students who may already have their tuition paid for through this program. Along with investing in its students, the University continues to introduce campus enhancements as the fall semester continues. Additions to campus include new nationally-recognized dining chains such as Steak n’ Shake, which joins Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks. Racer Dining has also recently added Tres Habaneros and Sub Connection in the Curris Center.

The University looks to continue to build on its positive momentum, including significant growth in several key fall 2020 enrollment categories, new and innovative academic programs and recognition from these national publications.
