Brand positioning reflects University’s core values of student success, dedicated faculty and staff, collaborative learning and life-defining academic programs and opportunities

MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University is proud to launch its new marketing and brand identity, “We are Racers.” The University celebrated the official unveiling with a brand celebration event in the Curris Center Feb. 26. Students, faculty, staff and the greater community enjoyed free food, “We are Racers.” giveaway items and prizes, a photo/video booth, interactive displays, and much more.

Led by the University’s Office of Branding, Marketing and Communication (BMC), “We are Racers.” aligns with multiple core values of Murray State University: inspiring faculty and staff committed to student success, a distinctive campus community and Racer Family, and high-quality, career-defining academic programs and college life experiences for students.

The new marketing and brand identity is the product of more than a year of evaluation, research, collaborations and concept testing, with constituents across the University and greater community — faculty, staff, current and future students, high school administrators, alumni and many others — who were included throughout the process. BMC partnered with higher education marketing firm Stamats in the project’s early stages as part of a brand audit to best assess the University’s existing messaging.

“The new ‘We are Racers.’ brand identity holds significant potential for Murray State University, and will resonate well with key audiences to share the University’s story and mission in accomplishing our goals as an institution,” said Executive Director of Marketing and Communication Shawn Touney.  “We have such a talented (branding, marketing, and communication) team who take a great deal of pride in their work, which is seen by so many. As we worked through this brand process, their creativity and talents were on full display, and that was so rewarding to see. It’s an honor to work alongside them. I’d like to also extend my appreciation to University leadership, including Dr. Bob Jackson, and all who were part of this year-long process, for their support of this important project.”
