MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University and Four Rivers Behavioral Health Regional Prevention Center are collaborating to host a Purchase Area Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Curris Center Ballroom on the University’s campus.

During the event, veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces will learn how to file VA disability claims, speak to Murray State staff about VA benefits, learn about suicide prevention resources and have their résumés reviewed by Murray State Career Services staff. Refreshments, games and door prizes will be available during this event that is fun for the whole family.

“The western part of Kentucky has so much respect for and a desire to help military members both past and current,” said Jud Faust, coordinator for veteran military student success at Murray State. “This event provides that opportunity. Veterans and members of the Armed Forces will be able to learn about services offered by the local community.”

Funding for the Purchase Area Military Day event is made possible by a grant to Four Rivers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

“Four Rivers Behavioral Health Regional Prevention Center believes those who have served or are currently serving our country through military service deserve a huge thanks for the sacrifices they have made,” said Ellen Walsh, director of the prevention center.

In addition to co-sponsoring events like the Purchase Area Military Appreciation Day, Murray State offers a number of services for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including in-state tuition rates, a veteran’s lounge, the Veteran Student Organization and school certifying officials serving as liaisons to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.

Notably, Murray State has also launched a new pricing model to support military students in earning their college degrees at little or no-out-of-pocket cost. Learn more about the new initiative at
