MURRAY, Ky. — The Murray State University Alumni Association is proud to announce the launch of the new Young Alumni Council as a branch of the University’s larger alumni organization.

The Young Alumni Council, which will officially kick off during Homecoming 2018, is open to any Murray State alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and are under the age of 40. The purpose of the new organization is to support recent graduates by offering various services uniquely tailored to meet their needs. The Young Alumni Council includes opportunities for participating alumni to facilitate networking activities, share career leads, stay connected to Murray State and more.

“We are looking at new and exciting ways of keeping our young alumni engaged and active in the mission and vision of Murray State,” said Carrie McGinnis, director of alumni relations. “These alumni have the passion, the energy and the drive to share their Murray State stories in ways that continue to foster involvement and growth throughout Racer Nation.”

Clint Combs, ’16, ’17, former Student Government Association president and student regent, will serve as the council’s first president. The group will be looking to recruit diverse and exceptional alumni and leaders, he said, with an emphasis on individuals with a deep passion for Murray State and a desire to give back time and resources to their alma mater.

“We believe Murray State is a quality institution offering exciting opportunities to all alumni and current students,” Combs said. “The Young Alumni Council will assist the Office of Alumni Relations in the implementation, promotion and participation of young alumni programming.”

McGinnis added that the organization of an affiliate group like the Young Alumni Council is the next logical step for the Murray State University Alumni Association overall.

“These alumni who are less than 10 years removed from their college experience can give a fresh perspective to incoming Racers and prospective students that will be key in our efforts to boost enrollment and recruit and retain students,” McGinnis said. “It is our hope that other affiliate councils will follow. We already have interest in organizing black alumni and Greek alumni affiliate councils in the near future.”

The first mandatory meeting of the Young Alumni Executive Council, the 15-member governing body of the new organization, will take place during Homecoming 2018 on Friday, Oct. 26, with additional details to come. Members of the new council at large will also participate in a variety of Homecoming activities that weekend, including a reunion, the parade, Tent City and more. Further information about these events and others will be forthcoming.
