MURRAY, Ky. — Staff Congress at Murray State University has selected two distinguished recipients to receive the Staff Congress Foundation/Marie Jones Textbook Scholarship for the fall 2017 semester.
Madison Lane, a staff member for Murray State’s Institute for International Studies, and Kalea Anderson, a dependent of Grace Lee Anderson in the Housing Office, were both awarded $250 scholarships to assist with the cost of textbooks.
“As I embark on a new course of study, I am thankful for this scholarship allowing me to purchase the course materials to succeed in my classes,” Lane said. “I am grateful for the ways that Murray State invests in their employees and makes continuing education a priority.”
The Staff Congress Foundation/Marie Jones Textbook Scholarship was established at Murray State by current and former Staff Congress members. The purpose of the fund is to assist Murray State staff members and their dependents with obtaining the necessary textbooks for pursuing their education. To be eligible, applicants must obtain their textbooks through the University Bookstore and provide Staff Congress with a receipt. Two awards of up to $250 are given each semester.
“One of Murray State’s most impactful benefits to employees is the opportunity to have tuition waived for themselves, their spouses and their dependents,” said Robyn Pizzo, chair for the scholarship committee. “It allows more people living in this area to pursue their education, whether they are first-time freshmen getting their undergraduate degrees or full-time employees of the University completing a degree or learning new skills. We feel fortunate to be able to help our co-workers and community in this way.”
Applications for the spring 2018 Staff Congress Foundation/Marie Jones Textbook Scholarship are due Feb. 2, 2018. For more information about the scholarship or to download an application, please visit murraystate.edu/staffcongress.
