MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University’s college of education and human services (CoEHS) at Murray State University selected Dr. Jack Rose as the recipient of the 2014 CoEHS Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Service Award. Rose, a 1993 Murray State University Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient, received the recent honor at the 29th Annual CoEHS Alumni Association Homecoming Breakfast held on Oct. 11 during the Murray State University Homecoming Weekend.

Rose was a professor in the department of educational studies, leadership and counseling from 1998-2014. He was also the dean of the college of education from 1998-2003. Rose spent a total of 25 years of employment at Murray State University. He is a 1965 graduate of MSU with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics, and the M.A.T. in 1967. Rose currently assists with the Kentucky Center for School Safety and is running for mayor of Murray.

Most recently, Rose was named the 2014 Faculty Distinguished Service Award winner by MSU. In 2010, he received the Dr. Charles and Marlene Johnson Outstanding Education Faculty Award, chosen by CoEHS colleagues. In 2008, Rose received the Kentucky Association of School Administrators William T. Nallia Award — the only university professor to receive this award. He was named the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1997.

Rose has served as a member and co-chair of several accreditation teams including universities of Kentucky and Louisville, as well as Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky and Spalding universities. He served as president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and was a member of the Kentucky Council on Higher Education and the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.

His community work includes service as chair of the board of directors of the Murray-Calloway County Hospital during the period of the planning and financing of the new $62 million hospital and the development of the program to build a Hospice House.
