American military veterans, prospective adult students and their families are invited to participate in the “Veterans and Adult Students —Back to College!” event, sponsored by Murray State University’s veterans liaison and AmeriCorps VISTA. The event is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26, from 5-7:30 p.m. in the CFSB Center on campus. Event activities will take place in the main lobby on the ground floor and in the adjacent Murray Room.
The AmeriCorp VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program awarded MSU a grant for the 2013-14 fiscal year that is designed to assist the veteran population in surrounding counties with educational and career-related opportunities.
“This type of program will allow Murray State University to open the door of opportunity to improve the lives of our veteran and adult population and allow access to needed resources such as financial aid, G.I. Bill benefits, student support and career services,” said Alison Marshall, associate director of the Transfer Center and the veterans and adult student liaison. “This will be a family-friendly event and children’s entertainment and refreshments will be available.”
The event specifically reaches out to the Kentucky counties of Calloway, Marshall and Graves, and Henry County in Tennessee.
A number of Murray State University representatives will be available to answer questions about admission to the university, veterans affairs, financial aid, scholarships, career services and student support services.
