Bid on original art for holiday gift-giving or for yourself

For more than 15 years, Murray State University’s Annual Art Auction has brought members of the community together with artists to benefit students in the department of art and design. Funds raised support scholarships, guest artists who work with students and more.

This year the auction will be held Friday, Nov. 18, in the Clara M. Eagle Art Gallery, located on the sixth floor of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building on campus. A silent auction and preview of the work for sale will begin at 7 p.m. and the live auction will start at 7:30 p.m.

Artwork to be auctioned includes ceramics by John Utgaard, drawings by Dale Leys and jewelry by Camille Serre — just a few of the many beautiful pieces created by the current art faculty at Murray State University, emeritus faculty, community artists and talented art students.

The MSU community and the extended community in the area are invited to join friends and colleagues for a fun evening of art for a good cause. Tina McCalment, director of art galleries at Murray State, suggests that interested individuals arrive early to see the full selection of work available in both the silent and live auctions, engage in a friendly competition for the best deals of the season, and bid early and often throughout the evening.

The Murray State Guitar Ensemble will provide live music and a selection of hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information on the auction, contact McCalment at (270) 809-3052 or by email at msu.eaglegallery.murraystate.edu.
