The Murray State University Center for Economic Education and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education will offer a free workshop for the Stock Market Game™ for grade 4-12 teachers.
This workshop will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the McCracken County School board offices in the Technology Center in Paducah, located on Berger Road.
During the workshop, teachers will learn how to teach math, social studies and practical living content applications that relate to real-world investing.
In the Stock Market Game™ student teams receive a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks and mutual funds using a real-world internet simulation. Teachers have the flexibility of choosing how much or how little class time to devote to the program. Grade and subject-specific curriculum guides, lesson plans and newsletters are provided for classroom instruction and correlated lessons are aligned to Kentucky State Academic Standards.
There are three Stock Market Game™ options offered to teachers who attend. The 10-week SMG focuses on stocks, bonds and mutual funds, while Take Stock in Kentucky instructs students about companies in Kentucky.
A new, third option runs for a year and includes stocks, mutual funds and bonds for a truly diversified portfolio experience. Rankings of all the teams are updated daily and prizes are awarded to the top teams.
During the workshop, participants will receive professional development certificates, a light supper and free resources for their classrooms. Pre-registration is required online at www.econ.org/pd or by email at email@example.com.
