The music department of Murray State University will present the annual Faculty Showcase Recital in the Performing Arts Hall of the Doyle Fine Arts Center, on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 3:30 p.m.
There will be an admission charge of $10 for adults and $5 for students.
This popular event is designed to introduce new and returning music faculty to the university community. The Showcase Recital will feature solo and ensemble performances involving 21 faculty and guest artists.
The newest faculty member is Matthew Gianforte, who will be performing on the piano.
Returning faculty members involved in the showcase are Scott Locke, clarinet; Randall Black, tenor; Sonya Baker, soprano; Stephanie Rea, flute; Stephen Brown, piano; Christopher Mitchell, baritone; Scott Erikson, bassoon; Tana Field, mezzo-soprano; John Dressler, horn; Angela Wu, piano; Brent Webster, guitar; Christina D’Ambrosio, piano; Todd Hill, piano; John Hill, vibes; and Sue-Jean Park, violin.
Special guest performers include Scott Thile, bass; Jennifer Poff, soprano; J. Derek Jones, tenor saxophone; Kala Dunn, vocals; and Dean Hughes, drums.
Composers represented among the various works on the program include Rossini, Bizet, Richard Strauss, Thelonius Monk, Liszt, Prokofiev; and Bernstein. One of the featured works on the program is Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody Number 2,” transcribed for four pianists at two pianos.
