MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University will dedicate two campus spaces in the new Engineering and Physics Building on the Gene Wells Ray Science Campus on Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Gary W. Boggess Science Resource Center

The Science Resource Center located in the new Engineering and Physics Building will house computer stations and student study areas. It will also include a conference room for students to work in groups and two presentation areas where students can practice class presentations, participate in video conferencing or live interviews.

The Science Resource Center is named in honor of Dr. Gary W. Boggess, ’62. A respected scholar and administrator, he served as dean of the College of Science at Murray State University for more than 20 years. As a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and as dean, Boggess was an avid supporter of students, helping to spearhead the creation of the Science Resource Center in the Blackburn Science Building.

The naming of the Boggess Science Resource Center was made possible by a generous donation from lifelong friend and fellow alumnus Dr. Jesse D. Jones, ’64, in recognition of his countless contributions and loyal dedication to Murray State University.

Timothy D. Jones Gateway

The two-story, brick walkway connecting the new Engineering and Physics Building to Jones Hall is named in honor of Mr. Timothy D. Jones, a native of Murray, Ky. and the son of Dr. Jesse D. Jones, ’64, and Janice McDermott. Timothy grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but returned to Kentucky to spend his childhood summers baling hay with his grandfather. After studying economics and finance at Louisiana State University, he began his career at Valero Energy in New Orleans.

In 2016, Dr. Jesse D. Jones made a generous gift to support the Engineering and Physics Building in recognition of his son’s professional accomplishments.

Friends and family are invited to join the campus in celebrating the contributions of these two outstanding men. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact the Office of Development at 270-809-3001.
