Murray State volleyball became just the seventh team in OVC history on Wednesday to win back-to-back outright regular season OVC titles as the Racers swept Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn. Set scores went 25-19, 25-14 and 25-19.
Alyssa Lelm led the way offensively for MSU (24-2, 14-1 OVC) with 13 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Kristen Besselsen added 11 kills. The Racers hit .213 as a team in the win while Austin Peay (9-22, 3-12 OVC) hit just .050.
The Racers also had one of their best matches defensively at the net, recording nine blocks as a team while the Governors had six. Besselsen led the way with three solo stuffs and two block assists. Audrey Lewis had two solo blocks.
Sam Bedard recorded 30 assists from her setter position to lead the way while adding 15 digs for her 18th double-double of the year. Ellie Lorenz led MSU in the back row, tallying 20 digs. MSU also had a 5-1 edge in service aces and were led by Besselsen’s three.
The Racers return home for Senior Day Saturday as they host Morehead State at 11 a.m. It will be the final regular season match at Racer Arena for seniors Sam Bedard, Alyssa Lelm, Taylor Olden and Emily Schmahl.
The title is MSU’s second regular season crown in program history and the Racers look to defend their OVC Tournament title next weekend when they host the OVC Tournament.
